Authorities have identified one of two teenagers involved in a fatal crash Thursday morning in Polk County.
Randy Smith, 16, Beltrami, Minn., was the passenger in a vehicle that collided with another car about 12:30 a.m. at U.S. Highway 59 and Polk County Road 41.
Smith was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver of Smith's car, a 15-year-old male from Fertile, Minn., was killed in the accident. His name has not been released.
According the State Patrol, the 15-year-old was driving a Pontiac sedan and was attempting to cross Highway 59 at County Road 41. The 15-year-old failed to yield to a northbound Volvo driven by Peter Schwartz of Shoreview, Minn., and hit it broadside. Schwartz also was treated for
non-life-threatening injuries.
