DEVILS LAKE, N.D. -- Devils Lake voters will decide Oct. 6 on a half-cent sales tax increase for a new convention center and wellness center.

The city’s plan is to build a convention center at the site of the old Walmart store and the wellness center at Lake Region State College. Together, the two facilities would cost $23.5 million.

Rachel Lindstrom with Forward Devils Lake said the special election will let voters focus just on the convention center without worrying about other issues on the ballot.

A recent phone survey of Devils Lake residents showed more than 60 percent would approve of the tax increase to build the two facilities.
