The nursery, 1017 Central Ave. N.W., is run by his mom, the store's co-owner, Kay Buckalew. "We actually opened up a little bit early this year," she said. The store has been running the nursery since the mid-'90s. They have cultivated suppliers from Iowa and Michigan, but also more locally in North Dakota and Minnesota. "We definitely like to use (University of Minnesota-Crookston) plants when we can get them," Kay said. Since opening for the season, Kay Buckalew said they've had a steady clientele who often come year after year looking for the same flowers or rare grasses. "I've been surprised at how busy it's been," she said. The nursery has extended hours during the nursery season.
