A Northwood, N.D., woman was sentenced Thursday for defrauding Grand Forks County Social Services of nearly $39,000.

Sarah Beth Nordling, 32, will not do jail time, but must pay $32,601.88 in restitution.

A court affidavit said in February, a social services worker received a tip that Sarah's husband, Adam Nordling, had been receiving worker's compensation payments for a number of years that weren't reported when she filed for assistance.

Sarah Nordling had filed for several programs through social services, and the overpayment occurred because she didn't report the couple was receiving worker's compensation. Authorities believe these overpayments occurred from February 2009 to February of this year.

The overpayments, from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Medicaid, Child Care Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Low Income Energy Assistance Program, totaled $38,894.08.
