Northland Red Cross volunteers are leaving today to join recovery efforts following the tornado that hit Wadena, Minn., Thursday evening.

In a news release, Tony Guerra of the Red Cross said two Northland volunteers would leave at 2 p.m. today in an emergency response vehicle to join more than 100 other Red Cross volunteers in the recovery operation.

More than 230 Wadena homes were damaged or destroyed when the tornado hit, according to Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

The news release offered three ways for people to contribute to disaster relief:

# Contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund may be sent to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013.

# Secure online contributions may be made at www.redcross.org .
