A woman was found dead at a Devils Lake apartment Tuesday morning, and another woman at the apartment was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to police, a scheduled visitor to the apartment at 117 Walnut Street called 911 about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Paramedics arrived to find Roberta Lee Bell, 56, of Devils Lake, unresponsive and not breathing. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

They also found Martha Jean Littlewind, 52, of Devils Lake unresponsive. She was taken to Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, where staff was unable to resuscitate her.

Devils Lake Police Detective Sue Schwab said two other women, both residents of the apartment were present, but neither is being held in connection with the deaths.

There are no obvious signs of foul play, but the case is still under investigation pending autopsy results, according to Schwab. There were medications in the apartment, but it's unknown if they were related to the deaths.

"It was unusual circumstances," she said. "At this point, I'm unable to say whether it's suspicious in a criminal matter."

The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Ramsey County coroner and the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department also assisted.

"I think it will answer more questions when we get the autopsy report," Schwab said.
