MENTOR, Minn.-A newspaper publisher from Mentor announced Friday he will run for the District 1B seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
Michael "Mike" Moore is seeking the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party endorsement in the district, according to a news release. His announcement makes him the second candidate vying for a DFL endorsement for District 1B, with Fosston resident Erwin "Erv" Rud also in the race.
Moore came to the district as a teacher and has experience working as a community development director and an economic development director. He also has been a small business owner for more than 30 years. He owns and operates The Thirteen Towns newspaper in Fosston and the Kittson County Enterprise newspaper. He also conducts economic development work for Red Lake Falls and is the economic development director for Kittson County.
Moore said in the release he is concerned about rural schools losing enrollment and feels schools are not providing the skilled labor needed to fill available jobs. He said vocational training in particular is limited and job training programs are not keeping up with the market.
Moore also listed housing and infrastructure issues as priorities, as well as fulfilling technological needs.
