BISMARCK – Workers affected by the oil industry’s slowdown are eligible to apply for a new scholarship announced Thursday.

The North Dakota University System and the North Dakota Petroleum Council announced a $5,000 Bakken U scholarship available to recently displaced oil workers, current oil workers or spouses of oil workers who wish to expand their knowledge and job marketability in North Dakota.

The scholarship will be available toward the cost of tuition, fees, books, room and board and other educational expenses for the spring 2016 semester.

An application form and more information is available at bakkenu.ndus.edu. Applications are due Dec. 30.
