Devils Lake Regional Airport has a new manager. John Nord began his duties on Friday.

Nord, former owner-operator of Dakota Sportswear, replaces Tricia Traynor, who recently resigned. Dakota Sportswear, located in west Devils Lake, was destroyed by a fire earlier this year.

While Nord, 56, has no previous airport industry experience, he says his 20 years as a local business owner will be an asset.

"I've always been interest in airplanes," he said. "I'm a local guy and it sounded like a really interesting job."

The Devils Lake Regional Airport is served by Mesaba Airline, which has two round-trip flights daily to Minneapolis.

The airport also recently just completed construction of a new crosswinds runway.

"That will allow us to make some changes and upgrade our main runway in the next couple of years," Nord said.
