FARGO - Dick Hanson and D.C. Coston will move forward in the North Dakota State University president search.
The interim president and vice president for agriculture are among 12 candidates who made the initial cut this morning.
James Carlson, co-founder of PRACS who taught at NDSU for 10 years, is not moving forward. Committee members did not bring up Carlson's name for discussion.
The committee reviewed 24 names and selected those they want to do reference checks on.
The latest applicant is William Ruud, president of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and a UND alumnus.

Ruud narrowly missed being named a finalist for UND President in 1999 when Charles Kupchella was named to the office. He was nominated for the UND presidency again during the most recent search, but he did not apply.
Search consultant Garry Owens said he expects up to 10 additional candidates to apply. The committee's next meeting is March 24.
