Museum Director Laurel Reuter said the auction was all about gifts -- both for the purchasers of the art and for the museum.
"Years ago, I decided that the museum should take responsibility for growing an audience for our own artists," Reuter said in a news release. "Our mantra became, 'If we don't support them, who is going to?'"
Not all of the artists with works in the auction live locally, but all have some relationship with the Museum of Art or the region, she said.
This year, there are significant works in the auction by artists who have recently shown at North Dakota Museum of Art, including Aganetha Dyck, Zoran Mojsilov, Chuck Kimmerle, Ewa Tarsia, Vivienne Morgan and Pirjo Berg. Other artists are Walter Piehl, the first winner of the Bush Foundation's $100,000 Enduring Vision Award; and two new Native artists from Winnipeg: Lita Fontaine and Scott Stephens.
When you buy through the Autumn Art Auction, the price includes framing or presentation, a news release said.
The auction co-chairmen are Marie Strinden and Benjamin Klipfel. Strinden was raised in Fargo and attended New York University, receiving her B.F.A. in Acting in 2005. Strinden and Klipfel met and bonded over theater and art, among other interests.
Klipfel has worked on plays for East Grand Forks High School, the Fire Hall Theatre and Crimson Creek Players.
Auctioneer for the evening Ross Rolshoven, a member of the board of directors for the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame in Medora, is a legal investigator who handles high-profile cases involving corporate, civil and criminal matters. He owns and operates Great Plains Claims Inc.
