Rex received his education in Medicine Lake, Montana. He married Maverette "Mae' Norman and they had two children, Sidney and Pamela. He and Mae entertained many people with "Swing and Sway with Rex and Mae' traveling around Montana, North Dakota and Minnesota. They moved to Badger, Minnesota in 1980 to set up an antique shop. Mae passed away in October of 1980, and in 1981 Rex married Carol Olson and resided in Badger. Rex worked for Meredith Publishing Company selling "Successful Farming' for many years. His pastime and main hobby was music, and he could play many instruments. He and Bob Skoglund entertained for many years together playing for dances, at the Roseau County Fair mini-stand, REA annual meeting, and also at the nursing homes in the area and also at the Four-Season Center in Roseau. He loved music, and was still playing his keyboard a few days prior to his passing. Rex also enjoyed watching and listening to the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, gardening, fishing, telling jokes, stories, playing cards, inventing things, and doing woodworking projects in his shed. He was very creative and was constantly thinking of things to make. Most of all Rex loved spending time with his grandchildren. He loved playing and joking with them, and teaching them about music. Rex passed away on January 18, 2007, at the Roseau Area Hospital after complications with pneumonia. He was 92 years old. Rex is survived by his wife Carol of Badger, children, Sidney (Ann) Norton of Hillsboro, ND, and Pamela (Ardell) Sellen of Salol, MN; step-children, Deb (Tim) Keefe of St. Hilaire, MN, Bryan (Christine) Modahl of Badger, and Jerry Modahl of Bemidji, MN; 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; brother Glen (Cora) Norton of Benicia, CA, and a special nephew Richard Norton of Elk Grove, CA. along with several other nieces and nephews.
