Sales tax revenue received by the city of Grand Forks in October 2008 totals more than $1.7 million, the third largest monthly total since the inception of sales tax in Grand Forks in 1985.
Finance Director John Schmisek cautioned that this shows how volatile the economy can be. "For several months, our sales tax revenue has been lower than expected and now we see a near record collection," said Schmisek.
"With October's strong collection, we could still end up close to or slightly above our anticipated growth of 4.5 percent."
For the year, Grand Forks has collected more than $13.8 million in sales tax revenue. That's up 5.69 percent from the same 10-month period last year.
