MOORHEAD - A 26-year-old Moorhead man is accused of stealing a car from a convenience store here and setting it on fire Sunday night.

According to Moorhead Police Sgt. Deric Swenson: The victim reported the black 2004 Pontiac Grand Am stolen at about 7 p.m., telling police she left it unlocked and running while she went into the M&H store at 510 Main Ave.

She gave police a description of a man she saw near the car before she entered the store.

About 30 minutes later, firefighters were called to a vehicle fire and found the stolen car engulfed in flames in the 400 block of Third Avenue South.

As officers were at M&H investigating the car theft, a man matching the suspect's description entered the store to use the restroom. Police arrested him on a Clay County warrant for DWI and found that he possessed property from the victim's vehicle, Swenson stated in a news release.

The man had been living in the same area where the vehicle was burned, the release stated. Sierra Haagenstad was arrested on the outstanding warrant, and police are recommending he be charged with arson, motor vehicle theft, DWI and possession of stolen property.
