Molly Yeh, local food blogger and cookbook author, was invited to visit the White House Tuesday afternoon to make gingerbread houses with the pastry chef.
Making gingerbread houses before the Christmas holiday is a White House tradition, according to an advance email Yeh received.
She also expected to spend time with another chef making holiday recipes "on the savory side," she said in a phone interview while on her way to the White House.
"I think macaroni and cheese was mentioned," she said.
Along with two other food bloggers,-one from New Orleans and the other from Seattle-she was invited to cook with and see demonstrations by White House chefs, she said.

Her agent offered her the opportunity last week, and she quickly rearranged her schedule to accept the invitation, which was aimed at "a few select influencers" in the food blogging and social media world.
Yeh said she intended to take pictures and write about her experience for her blog, "My Name is Yeh."
She is in Washington, D.C., with her husband, Nick Hagen. They live on the Hagen family farm 2 miles north of East Grand Forks.
The couple also met with their congressman, Collin Peterson, who represents Minnesota's seventh congressional district in the U.S. House. They also visited the Smithsonian Institute.
Yeh is author of the book "Molly on the Range: Recipes and Stories from an Unlikely Life on a Farm," recently published by Rodale Inc.
