FARGO - Moe Maurice Gibbs pleaded guilty this afternoon to one count of gross sexual imposition, admitting in court that he raped a Fargo woman on June 27, 2004.

His sentencing in Cass County District Court is set for 10 a.m. Dec. 20. Assistant State's Attorney Gary Delorme said his office will recommend a 20-year sentence, of which Gibbs would serve 12 years and be placed on probation for the remaining eight years.

Gibbs' attorney, Ross Brandborg, said after the hearing that Gibbs pleaded guilty because he believes it's best for his family and everyone involved.

The state will recommend the sentence run concurrent with any sentence Gibbs may receive for pending charges in Barnes County, N.D.

There, Gibbs faces several felony charges stemming from accusations that he sexually assaulted five female inmates while working at the Barnes County Jail in Valley City.
