The case of a 93-year-old woman facing a pair of misdemeanor driving charges is set for trial Nov. 30 in Ramsey County, N.D.

Faith Mitzel of Oberon, N.D., appeared in court Wednesday for a pretrial hearing.

State's Attorney Lonnie Olson said Wednesday was the deadline for Mitzel to reach a plea agreement with the prosecution, but no agreement was made.

Olson said Mitzel's trial will last one day and will be heard by a six-person jury.

A sheriff's deputy stopped Mitzel on Aug. 3 and cited her for driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance.

Olson has said that in the interest of public safety, he plans to ask for the maximum sentence -- 60 days in jail -- because Mitzel was recently involved in a fatal crash.

Authorities said Mitzel's car hit two motorcycles May 19 on a highway in Benson County, N.D., killing a woman and seriously injuring two men.

After an investigation, Mitzel was fined $20 for driving on the wrong side of the road and had her license suspended.

Mitzel's attorney, Monty Stensland, has said that seeking jail time for Mitzel in the pending case would be an attempt to punish her for the May 19 crash in which she was not criminally charged.
