LITCHFIELD, Minn. -- A 62-year-old Kimball woman was killed in a motor vehicle crash about 9 a.m. Tuesday in Meeker County.

A Minnesota State Patrol report said Barbara J. Root was driving a 2004 Kia west on state Highway 24 and made a defensive move to avoid an oncoming vehicle, but collided head-on with a third vehicle, a 1995 Chevy pickup driven by Douglas J. Hughes, 50, of Litchfield.

Hughes was taken to Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening.

The oncoming vehicle was an eastbound 2000 Pontiac driven by Matthew B. Bohach, 20, of Litchfield. Bohach was not injured.
