ST. PAUL --  The Minnesota State Fair is banning “selfie sticks” in some areas of the fairgrounds this year.

Selfie sticks and camera poles will be prohibited in the grandstand, free entertainment stage-seating areas, at ticketed attractions and on rides.

Selfie sticks can be used to extend cell phone and other cameras up to 3 feet away. Places like Disney World and various European tourists sites have also banned or limited the use of selfie sticks.

The state fair runs from  Aug. 27 to Sept. 7.
