VIRGINIA - An Iron Range homicide victim was stabbed multiple times, deposited near an old iron ore mine pit and severely burned, according to charges filed Tuesday.
Dylan Bernard Gilbertson, 19, was arraigned in State District Court on a second-degree intentional murder charge in last week’s death of 20-year-old Jaysen Greenwood.
Sixth Judicial District Judge James Florey set bail at $1 million.
According to the charges:
Greenwood’s body was discovered at approximately 11 a.m. Thursday in the Mott Pitt area on the west side of Mountain Iron. Investigators noticed tire tracks leading into the ditch where the body was discovered, and there was charring of the ground and vegetation around the victim.

Multiple stab wounds were found on Greenwood’s body, and blunt force trauma injuries were found on his head. A piece of broken knife remained in his chest.
Investigators said the body was wrapped in a cloth material, such as blankets or towels, indicating that Greenwood was killed elsewhere and moved.
Investigators linked the case to Gilbertson when Greenwood’s car was found outside his apartment. The victim’s blood was found in the Hibbing apartment, and authorities said there are indications that someone had attempted to clean areas of the residence.
A juvenile who also lived in the apartment told police that Gilbertson had previously claimed that Greenwood had stolen property from him and said that he “would like to stab Greenwood to death.”
Gilbertson allegedly told investigators that he seen Greenwood the night before his body was discovered, but denied killing him. He said the victim’s blood was discovered in the apartment because Greenwood had accidentally shot himself with a flare gun.
Gilbertson has no significant criminal history. Public defender Todd Deal, who represented him at arraignment, said he is professing his innocence and will fight the charge.
