A 33-year-old St. Michael, Minn., man is in critical condition after he was hit by a car while trying to retrieve his dog on eastbound Interstate 94 near Hudson, Wis., late Saturday night, the Wisconsin State Patrol said.

Joshua James Davis walked onto I-94 in an attempt to catch his dog and was struck by a car driven by 18-year-old Samantha Russell of Lindstrom, Minn., at about 11:30 p.m., the State Patrol said.

Davis was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he remains in critical condition.

Russell and her passenger were not injured.

Two of the three lanes of eastbound I-94 were closed for about two hours as authorities investigated and cleared the crash scene.
