Moorhead, Minn. - We've all heard of the duct tape prom outfit, but one couple from Moorhead High School made their prom outfits out of heavy-duty Carhartt work clothes.
It took nearly seven hours to complete the couple's whole ensemble, but they say all that hard work was definitely worth it.
Katherine Fisher/Moorhead High School Senior: "Well, first it kind of came on as like a joke type thing."
But the idea seemed to fit the couple's personalities perfectly.
Andy Hermann/Moorhead High School Senior, "We like working on each others cars, trucks."

Both Katherine and Andy plan on going into diesel mechanics after graduation and they both love wearing the heavy duty Carhartt work clothes. Katherine's dress consists of a pair of used bibbed overalls worked into an old prom dress. She says she wanted to use as much Carhartt material as possible.
Fisher, "The bibs are already like straps. Because strapless wouldn't go very well because it just fold down and be all messy. So, I thought the straps would be good and then we just cut the legs apart and just fanned them out."
Andy's outfit is a pair of Carhartt pants with a work shirt underneath and Carhartt straps attached to his suit pockets.
Going further with the theme. Katherine's jewelry and Andy's tie both have spark plugs on them.
Hermann, "Her grandpa had jokingly said 'You may as well get spark plug earring and a necklace too to go with it.' and he was laughing. And we just kind of looked at each other and we had that 'Are you thinking what I'm thinking?'"
In total the outfits cost less then $150. The couple purchased almost everything used and a family friend helping with the sewing.
Fisher, "I am not very mechanically like sewing. I'm more engine side, and I didn't know how fabric would fall and this fabric because it's so thick, so she helped a lot with the legs and how we should connect the blue fabric to the Carhartt."
This year's creative prom outfit is not a new thing for the couple. Last year the duo dressed in camo, and Katherine sported a bullet casing necklace.

Fisher, "I'm not much of a dress fan. I don't like really fancy stuff, so I thought why not make them?"
