Oslo man rises in Minnesota guards
Tadd Vanyo from Oslo, Minn., has been promoted to lieutenant colonel in the Minnesota National Guard, according to his mother Carol Johnson, East Grand Forks.
He is now deputy commander of the guards’ Camp Ripley.
Vanyo, the son of Johnson and the late John Vanyo, is an alumnus of Oslo High School and UND. He served a tour of duty in Bosnia-Herzegovina and two tours in Iraq, his mother said.

Grand Forks Air Force Base firefighters trains with GFFD
Firefighters from Grand Forks Air Force Base recently spent four days training the their colleagues from the city of Grand Forks, according to the base.
The city allowed the 319th Civil Engineer Squadron to use its fire-training simulator.
The squadron has trained with other area fire departments in the past, including a live house-fire training with Larimore, N.D., firefighters.
