Paaverud's career has
spanned 23 years, 20 of which have been with the North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck.
He is a former deputy state historic preservation officer and director of the state Historical Society's historic preservation division. He coordinated the master planning for six of the agency's major historic sites, as well as the planning and construction of the Pembina State Museum in Pembina, N.D., in 1996.
He served as supervisor at the Fort Totten State Historic Site near Devils Lake from 1983 to 1988.
He is a graduate of Finley (N.D.) High and holds degrees from UND and Ball State University in Indiana.

Paaverud lives in Bismarck with his wife, Kathy, and two daughters.
