Mentor, Minn., man sentenced for sexually abusing girls

A Mentor, Minn., man was sentenced Monday to 12 years in prison for sexually abusing two girls. Evert Armstrong Jr., 32, pleaded guilty to two charges of criminal sexual conduct. Four other similar charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Armstrong was required to register as a predatory offender. He received credit for already having served about four months in custody.

In the case of one girl, the abuse started in May 2006 when she was 10 years old and ended in June when she was 14, according to criminal complaints.

In the other case, the sexual contact occurred in June and July when the girl was 11 years old, the complaints say.
