CROOKSTON-- A Mentor, Minn., man is facing felony charges after being arrested on suspicion of assault by strangulation Monday night.

Ethan Michael Hegge, 22, is accused of choking a woman during an argument Monday at an apartment in the 200 block of West Fletcher Street in Crookston, according to a criminal complaint.

Officers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance about 8:30 p.m. Monday, where a woman told them she had been struck and choked. Police observed scratch marks on the left side of the woman's neck, according to the complaint.

Hegge denied striking the woman when speaking with officers. He did not give a formal statement after his arrest.

If convicted, Hegge could face up to three years in prison and be ordered to pay a $5,000 fine. He made his initial court appearance Tuesday. His next hearing date is scheduled for June 29.
