ST. PAUL UND sophomore forward Ryan Duncan was named one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award this afternoon.

The trophy, which goes to the most outstanding player in college hockey, will be presented on April 6 in St. Louis at the NCAA Frozen Four. Before that, the field will be narrowed to three.

Duncan is the third-leading goal scorer in the nation with 29 goals in 38 games. He's just three behind Niagara's Ted Cook and one back of Northern Michigan's Mike Santorelli.

The 5-foot-6 left wing led the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in goals (29), points (51) and power-play goals (16). He's one power-play goal shy of tying UND's all-time record, which was set by Doug Smail in 1979-80.

Today, Duncan was named player of the year in the WCHA.

Duncan is UND's first finalist since 2003-04, when both Brandon Bochenski and Zach Parise were named. The only winner from the school is Tony Hrkac, who brought home the award in 1987.

The 10 Hobey Baker Award finalists were named during the WCHA awards banquet at the Final Five. UND plays St. Cloud State at 2:07 p.m. in a semifinal matchup.
