A Grafton, N.D., woman was killed in a house fire early Monday morning, the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department reported.

Fire Chief Ken Popiel said they received a report at 5:37 a.m. of a fire at 621 Western Ave., located on the west side of town.

Firefighters had the blaze under control within a couple of hours, but the two-story house was totaled.

Popiel said the woman lived alone in the older single-family house; more information about the victim, including her name and age, was unavailable Monday. He said authorities were still trying to notify family members and more information might be released Tuesday.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fatal fire, and the fire marshal was expected to start looking into the blaze Tuesday morning.
