A fugitive wanted on a Cass County warrant from May 2003 was captured Wednesday in Texas, the U.S. Marshals Service said.

According to North Dakota Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Dan Orr:

Reynoldo Perez Garcia Jr., 34, had been on the run for seven years. He faces a warrant alleging he committed gross sexual imposition involving a minor younger than 15.

The recently formed High Plains Task Force received information indicating Garcia might be in Texas, and U.S. marshals there helped look for him.

Garcia learned from family members that the marshals were looking for him, and he contacted the Marshals Service and agreed to surrender.

He was arrested Wednesday and taken to the Cameron County Jail in Brownsville, Texas, where he awaits an extradition hearing, after which he could be returned to North Dakota to face the charges against him.

The High Plains Fugitive Task Force seeks to bring in wanted fugitives through cooperation among local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
