A late-morning fire in a south Grand Forks apartment sent a man with severe burns to the hospital today, officials said.
At about 11:30 a.m., Grand Forks firefighters responded to a call to 1116 19th Ave. S. The fire damage was limited to the flooring and some contents, and there was smoke damage in the apartment, officials said.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, then found and removed an unconscious man, 51, who was severely burned and also suffered smoke inhalation, batallion chief Rick Coulter said. The injured man, who was conscious outside the apartment, was taken to Altru Hospital.
As of mid-afternoon, the man still was being treated at Altru Hosptial. His condition was not known, Coulter said. An Altru spokeswoman said late this afternoon that it had no information to release.
The fire caused an estimated $7,500 in property damage, officials said.
