A man who admitted to committing a series of thefts in Grand Forks in 2006 and 2007 was sentenced Thursday to 1½ years in prison and five years of supervised probation.

Authorities said Gregory Nordrum, 41, told investigators in August, that among other thefts, he stole a vehicle in March 2007 and used it to smash a window at Simonson's Station Store at 310 Gateway Drive.

Nordrum told investigators he used a cable to tie an ATM in the store to the vehicle and dragged the ATM to a parking lot where he abandoned it because it was too heavy to load into the vehicle.

When Nordrum admitted to that crime and others in Grand Forks, he was already doing time for burglarizing Walsh County, N.D., farmsteads and stealing an ATM from a Minto, N.D., convenience store.
