A Grand Forks man was sentenced Thursday to 30 days in jail and two years of unsupervised probation for firing a handgun up into the air several times outside the Southgate Casino Bar and Grill.

Ut Muoi Ngo, 31, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment and carrying a gun at a bar.

Police said Ngo fired 14 shots about 12:30 a.m. Dec. 6 just outside the main doors of the bar at 2525 S. Washington St. No one was injured.

Officers spoke with about 10 witnesses who saw or heard the shots fired. Witnesses gave police Ngo's license plate number, which led them to arrest him at his apartment not long after the incident.

A witness told the Herald he believed Ngo fired the shots because he was upset about gambling losses that night.
