Man pleads guilty in Moorhead case that left one passenger with permanent brain injury

MOORHEAD - A Moorhead man pleaded guilty today in Clay County District Court to a charge stemming from an October crash on Interstate 94 that left another man with permanent brain injury.

Kristopher Todd From, 23, pleaded guilty to one count of criminal vehicular operation, stating he was the driver of a car that hit a patch of ice and crashed Oct. 11 on I-94 in Moorhead.

A plea agreement calls for From to be sentenced to 60 days in jail, which he has already satisfied, and to pay restitution that has yet to be calculated.Melton said restitution could be $100,000 or more.

From said he left the scene after the crash.

He said his brother, who was also in the car, called a relative who picked them up along with two other passengers in the vehicle who were driven to a hospital with injuries.

One of the passengers was near death after the crash, Clay County Attorney Brian Melton said.

He said the person suffered a spinal fracture and brain injury and requires long-term rehabilitation.
