WEST FARGO, N.D. – A man was in custody after a chase that started when he allegedly took his friend’s car during a traffic stop, then rammed a police car, according to police.

Jean Edward Roubideaux, 25, was being held on suspicion of possession of a concealed weapon, aggravated assault on a police officer, attempted burglary, fleeing both on foot and in a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest.

West Fargo police Sgt. Jason Dura said police made a traffic stop just after 1 a.m. The driver had no identification and was brought to the squad car.

That’s when a passenger, Roubideaux, jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off, said Dura, crashing the car deliberately into another nearby squad car.

The car hit a road sign and hit a curb a few blocks away.

Roubideaux then took off on foot, getting rid of a backpack and bolt cutter along the way.

He was trying to force his way into a home when police found him, Dura said. He had a loaded gun in his backpack.

Roubideaux also was being held on an outstanding warrant from the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
