PARK RAPIDS, Minn. - The man who was legally drunk when he caused a fatal highway accident in January east of Park Rapids will spend a little over three years in prison.
Robert Louis McGrath was sentenced to 58 months Monday, the day before he was to turn 50. McGrath is formerly of Akeley, Minn.
He was sentenced on charges of second-Degree DWI and criminal vehicular Homicide. He has four prior alcohol-related convictions, including three DWIs.
He must serve at least 38 2/3 months in an institution before he's eligible for supervised release.
The accident took the life of Dale L. McDougall, 53, of Hitterdal, Minn. McGrath was driving in the wrong lane of traffic when his vehicle met McDougall's head-on. Several of McDougall's family members gave emotional testimony at the sentencing.
