An adult male died in a one-car rollover sometime overnight about 10 miles north of Manvel, N.D., on U.S. Highway 81, according to the state Highway Patrol.
The crash was discovered about 4:55 a.m. today when a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train struck a Ford Escort that had rolled sometime earlier and settled on the tracks, which run parallel to the highway, Trooper Matthew Denault said.
The driver earlier had been ejected from the vehicle in the rollover and was found dead at the scene, Denault said.
The car, traveling north, appeared to have driven off the shoulder of the road and rolled when the driver overcorrected, Denault said.
The man's identify was not available pending notification of relatives, Denault said. More details about the crash might be available this afternoon.
