WILLISTON, N.D. – A camper that caught fire near Williston killed a man this week, the Williams County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

The Williston Rural Fire Department, Williams County fire marshal and the sheriff’s office responded to a call of a camper on fire near the Pilot truck stop in Williams County about 7 a.m. Monday.

Authorities believe a man who died in the fire was Phillip Dean Unnerstall Jr., 23, Williston. An autopsy is being conducted by the State Medical Examiner’s Office and authorities are also reviewing dental records.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a propane heater that was being used in the camper. An investigation is ongoing, but at this time officials do not suspect criminal activity.
