A 48-year-old man was killed this morning in Carlton County after he was thrown from his ATV.

The rider was found in Holyoke Township near the 4400 block of County Road 145 and appeared to have been traveling north on the road when he swerved to avoid a deer and lost control, according to a news release from the Carlton County Sheriff's Office.

He later died of injuries resulting from the crash.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
