A man facing charges of sexually assaulting a boy in Cavalier, N.D., made an initial appearance Tuesday in state District Court.
Travis Amos, 31, of Sisseton, S.D., is charged with two counts of gross sexual imposition, felonies that each carry a maximum penalty of life in prison without parole.
The incidents allegedly occurred between April 2006 and Aug. 22, 2006, at a home in Cavalier. The boy was 12 and 13 years old during that period, a criminal complaint shows.
The complaint says that, on one occasion, Amos gave alcohol to the boy and later forced the boy to masturbate him. On another occasion, Amos anally raped the boy, the complaint states.
A message left for Amos' attorney, David Dusek, was not returned Tuesday.

Amos is due back in court Sept. 10.
