FERGUS FALLS – A man faces a felony charge after allegedly killing his cat here with a butcher knife, police said.

Keith Dement, 26, had an argument with his girlfriend around 1 a.m. Thursday morning, said Fergus Falls police officer Nathan Lien.

Dement’s girlfriend told him to take the cat out of the house, Lien said. He took the knife and the cat outside.

Lien said Dement confessed to officers called to the scene that he killed the animal and hid its body in a bucket.

Dement is currently in custody in the Otter Tail County Jail. He faces a felony charge for the mistreatment of an animal.
