Authorities say a Grand Forks Air Force Base airman was at the wheel of a pickup truck that slammed into a pillar at the front doors of K-Mart on Tuesday night.

Stephen Cooper, 24, from Grand Forks Air Force Base, was arrested Tuesday, after police responded to a call of a one-vehicle crash in the K-Mart parking lot.

When police arrived, they found that a red 2003 Ford pickup had struck a support pillar near the front doors to the store.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Cooper, was found nearby. He had small cuts to his face and a swollen ankle. Cooper was transported to the Altru Emergency room where he was treated and released.

Cooper was arrested on a driving under the influence charge and confined at the Grand Forks jail.
