MINOT - One man was arrested and another treated for injuries after sneaking into a Minot zoo and being bitten by a bear.

The Minot Police Department was sent to the Trinity Hospital emergency room to investigate a patient who claimed he was attacked by a bear Saturday night.

Reports indicate that David Shepard, 21, and Cody Kage, 23, climbed the fence surrounding the Roosevelt Park Zoo.

Shepard tried to get one of the bears to come near him by sticking his right arm through the bars of the bear enclosure. The bear then bit Shepard's right hand.

Both Kage and Shepard were under the influence of alcohol at the time, police said.

Kage was arrested for criminal trespass. Shepard was not immediately arrested as he was getting medical treatment.

A warrant will be requested against Shepard for criminal trespass.
