Police say they arrested a Horace, N.D., man Tuesday for exposing himself at a Grand Forks convenience store.

Sgt. Tom Laughlin said a surveillance camera in the Cenex Store at University Avenue and North Washington Street captured 45-year-old Steven George Lewis in the act.

"He was in the store, unzipped his pants and then walked up to the counter with them open," Laughlin said.

Officers were called to the store about 10:30 a.m., and when they arrived, Lewis was driving away from the parking lot of the Valley Dairy store across the street, police said.

His vehicle was stopped and he was detained. A Cenex clerk positively identified Lewis and, because an officer did not witness the incident, made a citizen's arrest on him, Laughlin said.

Police have asked the Valley Dairy to review its surveillance video to see if Lewis also exposed himself there.

He was booked on an indecent exposure charge at the Grand Forks County jail and later posted bail.

A message left at a number listed for Lewis was not returned Tuesday evening.
