Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Prosectors formally charged the man accused of stealing a vehicle with a three-year-old child in the backseat.
So far, Ali Hashi is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, not kidnapping. Hashi requested a contested preliminary hearing meaning the state has to prove probable cause of the theft charge.
Whether he is charged with kidnapping in the future depends on the information the state's attorney's office receives from investigators.
Renata Selzer/North Dakota Assistant State's Attorney, said "There was a child in the vehicle when the vehicle was stolen, the child was located and the child was ok. But we have not received any information to support a charge of kidnapping."
Hashi's preliminary hearing is set for September 2nd.
