An Ada, Minn., man is facing a felony charge after prosecutors say he brandished a knife at a Grand Forks sheriff's deputy who was making an arrest Monday.

Timothy Myron Binstock, 32, has been charged with terrorizing, a Class C felony. He made his initial court appearance Wednesday.

A deputy went to an apartment in the 3300 block of South 10th Street in an attempt to serve a warrant on a Grand Forks woman, Kelsey Gail Hopkins, for a failure to appear charge, according to an affidavit. When the deputy arrived, he spoke with Binstock who said he did not know Hopkins and didn't recognize her picture.

As the deputy left, a neighbor told him Hopkins did live there, according to the affidavit, and when he returned to knock on the door, she was there.

When the deputy attempted to arrest Hopkins, he said she resisted. The two struggled briefly in the hallway outside the apartment. As they struggled, the deputy wrote that Binstock emerged from the apartment with a knife in his right hand.

The deputy told Binstock to stop. Binstock then threw the knife on the ground, according to the affidavit. Grand Forks Police helped the deputy detain Binstock.
