UND Department of Theatre Arts will present four main stage productions, including "The Elephant Man" and "Bus Stop," for its 2007-2008 season at Burtness Theater.
-- "Anton in Show Business," Oct. 2-6. This comedy by Jane Martin looks at the backstage antics of show business people from the hardened star to the idealistic ingenue as they rehearse for Anton Chekhov's play, "Three Sisters."
-- "The Elephant Man," Nov. 13-17. Bernard Pomerance's smash hit on Broadway, this drama is based on a true story of a man trapped inside a hideously deformed body. The play reveals the social outcast to have a far richer inner spirit than the hypocritical 1890s Victorian middle class that surrounds him.
-- "Swimming in the Shallows," Feb. 19-28. Student directed and designed, this absurd comedy by Adam Bock offers an amusing view of the contemporary life where love between a man and a shark is no less confusing than our emotions in any relationships.
-- "Bus Stop," April 15-19. The American classic by William Inge captures the emotional landscape of love and lust among a cross section of folks snowbound in a Kansas bus stop diner.
