Leah Brekke

Leah Jo Brekke was born on July 9, 1983, in Fargo, ND, the firstborn child of Dan and Jo Brekke. She attended West Fargo Public Schools and graduated from high school in 2001. She moved to Grand Forks, ND and attended UND as a biology major. She returned to West Fargo in summer 2006 and began furthering her education at the University of Mary, pursuing a degree in Business Administration. She died tragically in a car accident on July 29, 2007 near Detroit Lakes, MN.

Leah was full of life. She hit the ground running by walking at 9 months old and never quit going. She loved her Mom and Dad and sisters very much and enjoyed family trips. She loved watching her Dad play fastpitch softball and, for more than a decade, traveled with her grandparents to all the tournaments, becoming somewhat of a mascot for the team. She and her mother were kindred spirits and shared many interests. She loved animals, especially her cats Moxie and Cami. She loved reading, going shopping, listening to music, cooking, and spending time with her many friends. She will be remembered for her big sparkling blue eyes, friendly smile, and outgoing personality. Everyone that knew and loved her will deeply miss her. Her Dad will miss his "Kitty Kat" and her Mom will miss her "Lou Lou."

Leah especially loved her fiancé, Ryan Jacobs, Fargo, ND. They became engaged on her birthday, July 9, 2007 and were planning a March 2008 wedding. Despite being engaged for only a short time, these were some of the happiest times of her life. She loved spending time with Ryan and planning for their life together. They were inseparable. She loved being at the lake and recently took up Ryan's passion, bass fishing. They won their first bass fishing tournament together three days before her untimely death.

She is survived by her parents, Dan and Jo Brekke, and her sisters Carlie and Tara, West Fargo, ND; her fiancé Ryan Jacobs, Fargo, ND; her grandparents, Don and Jean Brekke of Detroit Lakes, MN; her grandparents, Phil and Joan Johnson of Milbank, SD; her aunts and uncles and her cousins, David and Alice Brekke, Ellen and Peter, Grand Forks, ND; Dennis and Kris Brekke, Andrea, Alyssa, and Matthew, Maple Grove, MN; Barry and Sally Johnson, Lukas, Andrew, and Emma, West Fargo, ND; and Greg and Sue Johnson, Matthew, Faith, and Benjamin, Paola, KS.
