Wine-to-go

BISMARCK For the sake of those who buy $100 bottles of wine and prevention of drunken driving, North Dakota should adopt a law allowing diners to take the remainder of bottles home with them, a Senate committee decided Tuesday.

The Senate Industry, Business and Labor Committee voted 6-0 to give House Bill 1346 a do-pass recommendation.

Rep. Dave Weiler, R-Bismarck, and Rep. Bette Grande, R-Fargo, sponsored the bill at the request of dining establishments in their cities. It has already passed the House 89-1.

It would allow the practice if the restaurant recorks the wine, seals it and gives the customer a receipt.

The North Dakota Hospitality Association and the liquor wholesalers' lobbyist also testified in favor of the bill. No one opposed it.
