A Larimore, N.D., man charged with a sexual assault made his first appearance in state District Court in Crookston Monday.

Ismael Hernandez, 31, known as "Smiley," had his bond set at $500,000 with conditions by District Judge Donald Aandal.

Hernandez turned himself in on May 25, three days after he and Jose Arriaga Soto Jr., 33, were charged with criminal sexual conduct in the first degree in state District Court.

According to a criminal complaint, a 26-year-old woman told police she was given a ride from a bonfire to an East Grand Forks apartment where the sexual assault occurred.

Among the conditions for Hernandez's release are no contact with the victim and no use of drugs or alcohol.
