Lancaster, MInn., port runner arrested

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents along with Kittson County deputies apprehended a Canadian citizen who ran the Lancaster, Minn., port of entry Thursday night.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents along with Kittson County deputies apprehended a Canadian citizen who ran the Lancaster, Minn., port of entry Thursday night.

According to the Border Patrol, at 9 p.m. a dark midsized pickup drove through the port of entry at high speed without stopping for inspection.

The vehicle was driven by a 25-year-old Winnipeg man, who was caught and taken to the Pembina, N.D., port of entry, where he was fined $5,000 and returned to Canada. The Border Patrol did not name the man.

Failing to stop when crossing a border, or port running, can be penalized by a fine up to $10,000. The minimum fine is $5,000 and other penalties include possible vehicle seizure and criminal prosecution.
